Gary is the founder of the Cambridge Sustainability Improvement Methodology (CSIM), also known as Sustain 8. This methodology provides a foundation for sustainable transformation by engaging front-line factory workers in improvement.

EXPERTISE

Gary is both a Visiting Fellow (Centre for Industrial Sustainability) and a consultant for IfM Engage. As a Fellow he guides research into future factory concepts, and as a consultant he delivers sustainability improvement for major companies.

Notably, Gary is the founder of the Cambridge Sustainability Improvement Methodology (CSIM), also known as Sustain 8. This methodology provides a foundation for sustainable transformation by engaging front-line factory workers in improvement. This has been successfully employed across many sectors and is proven to deliver 15-30% improvements in energy, waste, materials, water and rework efficiencies.

HIGHLIGHTS

Prior to joining Cambridge, Gary had 34 years of technology leadership in agri-manufacturing, predominantly with AB Sugar – the world’s second-largest sugar company with factories in Europe, China and Africa.

Reporting directly to the main Board, he has worked globally to introduce technology innovation; to benchmark factory performance; and to lead a Community of Practice in sharing best practice across 1,000 professionals in 11 countries.

Gary has particular expertise in developing diversified ‘no waste’ bio refineries producing food, feed, alcohol, bioenergy and biochemicals from agricultural crops; example case study: Wissington Bio-refinery. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
